running with wild turkeys

Some joggers joined me on my run this morning. About a mile from our house, five wild turkeys, all hens, walked up to me from a driveway. They started trotting along staying about 10 feet behind. They were making a purrting sound; sort of a cross between chirping and purring. It was about 6:30 am and no traffic on the dirt road.

I stopped to talk to them. They also stopped; looking at me and each other. I started back up and they kept following me. They stopped just before a farm house further up the hill, got a drink from the ditch and headed into a fresh cut field probably to forage.

Sorry for no picture; I don’t bring anything when I run. Maybe they followed me because there was no tom in their group. I’ve seen domestic turkeys do this. They’re very sociable.
